Publishers' FAQ > Publicity > How do I get reviews for my books?

Discuss Publicity Topics | Publicity Resources

It is often difficult to garner significant review coverage for independently published books. The average book editor receives hundreds of books per week; it's more than a possibility that yours will be overlooked, so don't base your self-esteem on getting covered in the New York Times. Seek out publications that have an interest in books from indies and, when possible, meet with reviewers but spend no more than 15 minutes on your pitch.

Carefully compose your media list. CLMP's basic list is a start. Identify media that reach your target audience and regions. Other sources for free lists are: your author, bookstores where your author will read (great for researching an unfamiliar region), related associations, other presses. Make sure to update frequently. Send review copies or galleys with a press release, make followup calls, and cross your fingers! Also see Getting the Word Out--The Power of Publicity.
