New York, NY (January 17, 2023)—The Community of Literary Magazines and Presses is thrilled to announce that La Impresora, based in Isabela, Puerto Rico, is the winner of the $10,000 Constellation Award. Two finalists were also selected: FlowerSong Press in McAllen, Texas, and Kaya Press in Los Angeles, California.
Given to honor an independent literary press that is led by and/or champions the writing of people of color, including Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and Asian American & Pacific Islander individuals, for excellence in publishing, the Constellation Award was launched in 2021 by CLMP with the support of Penguin Random House, which will underwrite the award for its first three years.

La Impresora was founded in 2016 as a Risograph printing studio for poets and visual artists in Puerto Rico. The press now publishes 10 to 20 books of poetry per year, focusing on contemporary literature from Puerto Rico, with particular emphasis on Puerto Rican poetry written by underrepresented authors. This year, in addition to book-length publications by poets Mara Pastor, Ana Portnoy Brimmer, and Jacqueline Jiang, La Impresora is also working on an anthology of writing by Puerto Rican trans poets and a series of publications by the participants of the second phase of the Puerto Rican Arts Initiative, a performance art residency program launched in 2017 to help artists create new work after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.

The judges for this year’s award were J.K. Fowler, Founder and Executive Director of Nomadic Press, and CLMP Board Members Beena Kamlani, author and freelance editor; Deborah Paredez, author, cofounder of CantoMundo, and Associate Professor at Columbia University; and Clarence Reynolds, former Director of The Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College CUNY.

La Impresora recibe el Constellation Award 2022 de $10,000
New York, NY (17 de enero de 2023)—El Community of Literary Magazines and Presses se complace en anunciar que La Impresora, ubicada en Isabela, Puerto Rico, es la ganadora del Constellation Award de $10,000. También se seleccionaron a dos finalistas: FlowerSong Press en McAllen, Texas y Kaya Press en Los Angeles, California.
Otorgado en honor a una editorial literaria independiente dirigida por y/o que apoya la escritura de personas BIPOC—incluyendo a personas Negras, Indígenas, Latinx y Asiáticas-Americanas y de las islas del Pacífico—por su excelencia en publicación, el Constellation Award fue lanzado en 2021 por el CLMP con el respaldo de Penguin Random House, que financiará el premio durante sus primeros tres años.

La Impresora fue fundada en 2016 como un taller de impresión de Risografía para poetas y artistas visuales en Puerto Rico. Actualmente, la editorial publica de 10 a 20 libros de poesía anualmente, enfocándose en poesía contemporánea de Puerto Rico, con un énfasis particular en poesía puertorriqueña escrita por autores subrepresentades. Este año, además de publicar los libros de poesía de Mara Pastor, Ana Portnoy Brimmer y Jacqueline Jiang, La Impresora también trabaja una antología de poetas trans Puertorriqueñes y una serie de publicaciones de les participantes de la segunda fase del Puerto Rican Arts Initiative, un programa de residencia de artes escénicas lanzado en 2017 tras la devastación del archipiélago por el huracán María.
