Literary Magazine Fund

In alliance with Amazon Literary Partnership, the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses invites literary magazines to submit applications for grants from the Literary Magazine Fund. The Literary Magazine Fund typically administers 15 to 20 grants, selected by a panel convened by CLMP. The 2025 panelists are Victoria Blanco, Garrard Conley, and Taylor Johnson.

Applications for the 2025 Literary Magazine Fund will be accepted through May 18, 2025.

Applicants must be registered nonprofits in the US, whose core mission is to develop emerging writers, support diversity, celebrate storytelling, and/or build authors’ careers. Literary magazines should be structurally and financially sound; display energy, passion, and reach; and have an online presence and an enthusiastic membership or readership. Magazines with fiscal sponsors and university-affiliated magazines are eligible to apply.

About Amazon Literary Partnership and the Literary Magazine Fund

What does the Amazon Literary Partnership do?
Since 2009, the Amazon Literary Partnership has provided $16 million in grants to more than 150 organizations, assisting many thousands of writers. ALP has supported the National Book Foundation, Cave Canem, Poets & Writers, Girls Write Now, Hurston Wright Foundation, and more. ALP supports literary centers, writing workshops, residencies, fellowships, literary magazines, independent publishers, poetry, and translation programs. Writers supported by these organizations have become bestselling authors and award winners.

Grants are given to innovative, energetic groups whose core mission is to support diverse, underserved and marginalized writers, develop emerging writers and/or build the careers of working writers to connect writers with readers. ALP helps writers across all genres and formats, fiction and nonfiction, including poetry and translation.

The Community of Literary Magazine and Presses (CLMP) administers the Literary Magazine Fund as part of the Amazon Literary Partnership initiative.

How do grants work, how can I apply?
Amazon Literary Partnership provides grants to nonprofit literary organizations on an annual basis. Applications for 2025 grants, including the Poetry Fund and Literary Magazine Fund, are open now through May 18, 2025. Grant recipients will be announced in June. Grants typically range from $5,000 to $20,000. Due to the volume of requests, we are unable to respond personally to each inquiry, nor can we provide guidance on applications.

What are the grant amounts I should apply for?
ALP offers grants ranging from $5,000 to $20,000. Organizations should clearly articulate the scope of the project/mission and how the funds will be used. ALP is excited to support programs that offer discrete and specific funding requests.

Can I apply for general funding?
Yes; ALP’s aim is to offer funding to the vital institutions that offer writers the support, space, and community that they need. ALP’s desire is to help sustain operations and to support new initiatives that organizations feel compelled to launch and create for the benefit of the writers they serve.

It’s important to provide a clear sense of your organization and existing programs—the scope and amount of writers you serve, the goals and measurement of your organization, etc.—and how the specific grant funding will benefit your organization.

Who is eligible?
Applicants must be a registered nonprofit organization in the US, whose core mission is to develop emerging writers, support diversity, celebrate storytelling, and/or build authors’ careers. Organizations should be structurally and financially sound; display energy, passion, and reach; have an online presence and an enthusiastic membership or readership. Organizations with fiscal sponsors and university-affiliated organizations are eligible to apply. Magazines must publish primarily in English.

All applicants should apply via the above link. Applicants that are literary magazines will be assigned to the Literary Magazine Fund, administered by CLMP; applicants that are poetry focused will be assigned to the Poetry Fund, administered by the Academy of American Poets. All other applicants will be reviewed by Amazon Literary Partnership directly.
