Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Gully is a new literary magazine, published annually in print and online. We publish fiction, poetry, non-fiction, and visual art, and we are currently soliciting submissions for our inaugural issue, to be published in summer 2024. Our founding editors are based in New York City, Singapore and Berlin, and we are excited to publish work by writers and artists from around the world. We are open to work in translation as well. We are open to many kinds of fiction and poems, from domestic dramas rendered in luminous prose to humorous picaresques to avant garde experiments. For non-fiction, we are interested in everything, so long as it has original ideas and startling language — no academic or therapeutic jargon! We are less interested in straightforward personal essays or analyses of the latest TikTok microtrend, and more interested in reported narratives and thoughtful, deeply read arguments. We would love a story that you had to leave your house to write. We pay an honorarium of US$15 for poems and Gullets and US$30 for features and longer fiction (>1,000 words). It's free to submit.
