Demonstrate that you know who your audience is and what you wish to say. Show her that you are in control of your tone, that your vocabulary is suitable, and that your commands of punctuation, spelling, and grammar are correct.

Commitment, self-awareness, and nuance in language, treatment, and ambition.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
The completion of your book may be the end of a personal quest, but that is not the story that will interest me. You will interest me in your role as a writer, so don't present yourself as a neophyte but as an author.
Do You Have A Favorite Unsolicited Submission Discovery Or Anecdote?
Three times I have received submissions that I read with interest; requested the whole manuscript; read the manuscript at one sitting; accepted the book the same day and then published it.
