Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
The micro-chapbook encourages true consideration of each piece’s necessity, acts as internal prompt through thematic intention, provides a cohesive reading experience, has the potential to demystify the genre for those who may not yet know that they are readers of poetry, and provides an alternative to the costly, contest-driven, and saturated full-length industry. There is value in stopping when we feel the need to stop, in creating something inarguably cohesive with pieces that build upon or inform one another in a way that is evident thematically, though not at all belabored. I wanted a place for that, wanted a press whose intention was to make these complicated and digestible collections and their authors the absolute center of its mission.

Do You Have Any Cover Letter Advice?
Cover letters are not necessary.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
Economy of language, unifying theme, original voice.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Read one of our collections. Immerse yourself in themed collections outside of Whittle's catalog. Consider all the different angles of your topic. We tend to like spare, terse, haunting work.
Do You Have A Favorite Unsolicited Submission Discovery Or Anecdote?
Lauren Davis' Sivvy was Whittle's first unsolicited publication and remains a darling. I was glued to the page on first read.
